The artistic management of Vocal Pop & Jazz Days 2008 will be in the hands of three directors, all highly recognised for their work in jazz and commercial music.

Mr. Jens Johansen

Mr. Jens Johansen - conductor

Jens is employed as an assistant professor at Musikvidenskabeligt Institut, Aarhus Universitet (the Musicology Department at the University of Aarhus), where his lectures include "Arranging for Pop/Rock Choir", "Conducting Contemporary Choir " and "Music Theory and Analysis".
He formed Vocal Line in January 1991 and he has conducted the choir ever since. Besides conducting, he also finds time to arrange new songs.
In addition, he also teaches "Conducting Contemporary Choir" at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. He has recently completed a research project on "Part-singing in Pop/Rock Music", in which Vocal Line plays an important part.
Jens Johansen has given lectures at various seminars and acted as conductor at a number of choir festivals in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Germany and Hungary. Over the past 20 years, he has published numerous choir arrangements and compositions that are performed by a wide array of choir singers all over Europe.
On top of this, he is a board member on the committee of the choir organization KOR72 as well as on the committee of Danske Korledere (Danish Choir Conductors). In these capacities, he helps organize seminars, workshops and choir contests to the benefit of Danish choir singers and conductors.

Mr. Hans van den Brand

Mr. Hans van den Brand - conductor

Hans van den Brand graduated in Music Education and Organ at the Fontys Conservatory and studied piano with professor Cécile de Grijs.
He finished his studies Choral conducting with Jan Boogaarts and Cees Rotteveel. Hans studied arranging techniques with Harrie van Hoof, Stephen Zegree, Michele Weir and Darmon Meader. He started his conducting career in 1974, conducting several choirs in the Netherlands since then: Vocal Jazz Group Kluster, Souvenir des Montagnards Opera Choir, Theatre Company and Youth Choir, vocal group Femulous and The Fontys Jazz Choir. Since july 2007 he is the conductor of Be Sharp.

Hans is the supervisor of the MusiCompany at the Fontys Conservatory and team manager of the Music Education Department at the same institute.

He was staff manager on choral music of the UNISONO foundation for 15 years and the artistic manager of the International Vocal Group Festival. Hans is a renowned jury member, clinician and choral coach.
He published several compositions and arrangements.

Mr. Tijs Krammer

Mr. Tijs Krammer - conductor

Tijs is best known for his singing association with the internationally
famed vocal group Montezuma's Revenge. Having studied singing at the Utrecht Conservatory in The Netherlands, Tijs pursued his musical education at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, studying choral conducting and arranging. Tijs conducts the choir Leeuwenhart, specialising in vocal music in Dutch, and recently started the semi professional vocal group Vocalicious.

Having written arrangements for many groups, including Intermezzo and The Gents, Tijs has regularly been teaching courses in arranging and vocal jazz, most of these organized by Balk. He is teaching Conducting Vocal Light at Unisono, a course organized by Balk. Tijs' arrangements are published by De Haske and Molenaar.

Mr. Johan Rooze

Mr. Johan Rooze - combo, workshops & theory lesson

Johan Rooze studied Piano and Choral conducting at the conservatory of Utrecht, the Netherlands. Although educated mostly in classical music, he became a specialist in Vocal Pop and Jazz ensembles. He attended workshops and master classes and worked with specialists like Phil Mattson, Michele Weir, Steve Zegree, Paris Rutherford, Ward Swingle, Jonathan Rathbone and Darmon Meader.
